About Us

Who we are

The Community Action Agency of Siouxland was created in 1971 to help people through economic crises and help them make it on their own. We are a private, nonprofit human services organization. Our Board of Directors is composed of local public officials, business leaders and representatives of the low-income community. Some of our former clients are now board members, directing our mission. There are 18 Community Action Agencies serving all of Iowa.

What we do

We have a number of programs to carry out our mission of providing short-term aid and encouraging long-term change. They include early childhood education, emergency assistance, heating assistance, weatherization, transitional housing, senior employment training, family development and child care food program.

Who we help

In our last fiscal year, we touched the lives of 15,796 individuals.

Eligibility for our programs is based on federal poverty guidelines. Some programs help people who are at or below 150 percent of the income guidelines, while most help people with far less income. Most of our programs are focused on Woodbury County, but there are exceptions. The Senior Community Service Employment Program, for example, operates in Plymouth, Lyon, Ida, Cherokee, Buena Vista and Sioux Counties as well as Woodbury County. Our Weatherization Program helps people in both Monona and Woodbury Counties.
